With growing fears of the hybrid deadly swine flu strain turning into a long-dreaded pandemic, everyone must now consider the reality of what they must do to avoid becoming its victim. The CDC findings that the new strain carries three genes from Eurasian swine flu bugs not known to be circulating in the U.S. is troubling to say the least. Recent lab results reveal it is a reassortant virus that assembled itself from the genes of at least two different swine flu viruses and carries no human flu genes. [Editor Note: This sounds more like a laboratory cocktail.] Preventive medicine such as washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough is good practice from catching and spreading colds, but alone may not be enough to keep this mutated influenza from invading your immune system. Giving your body the necessary boost of antiviral protection will be key for warding off pathogens such as the H1N1 virus. And because the Swine Flu is transmitted person to person, stopping the H1N1 (SIV) by killing its airborne pathogens will be equally important in stopping this from becoming a pandemic. Both objectives may be achieved by diffusing therapeutic-grade essential oils that contain antiviral and antibacterial constituents. In a book entitled, CINNAMON AND CASSIA: The Spices of Life by P.N. Ravindran, K. Nirmal Babu, M. Shylaja, scientific investigations revealed that extracts from Cinnamon and Cassia exhibited immune system potentiating and inhibiting effects as well as exhibiting antiviral action against the Influenza A virus. Nature seems to have given us the solution to these pathogens. Georgetown University researchers have found something as common as oil of Oregano can reduce infection "as effectively as traditional antibiotics." This article is available online at http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/sardi6.html. Studies conducted at Weber State University (Ogden, UT) demonstrated an essential oil blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata and rosemary power against airborne micro-organisms. One analysis showed a 90 percent reduction in the number of gram positive Micrococcus luteus organisms after diffusing for 12 minutes. After 20 minutes of diffusing, the kill-rate jumped to 99.3 percent. Another study against the gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed a kill rate of 99.6 percent after just 12 minutes of diffusion. University of Manchester researchers found essential oils used in aromatherapy destroyed MRSA and E. Coli bacteria in two minutes, Reuters Health News reported. "A pair of orthopaedic surgeons report that two essential oils – Eucalyptus and Tea Tree oil (Melaleuca) are surprisingly effective at treating Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) infections." Wythenshawe Hospital Burns Unit in England found using a vaporizer to spray essential oils combated the superbug MRSA as well. During the nine-month trial airborne bacteria diminished by 90% and infections were reduced. Estimates annually show 5,000 deaths occur because of hospital-acquired infections according to the national audit office. In the final two months of the test, the essential oils were removed from the vaporizer and an MRSA outbreak occurred on the ward. Several essential oils have antiviral and antibacterial characteristics that can boost your immune system. For maximum effectiveness, diffuse them in your home and office twice a day for 15-20 minutes at the earliest sign of influenza and/or before contracting a cold/flu as a preventative.
